Mario Kart World and Co. take up so much space on the Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has increased the internal storage space in direct comparison to the older Switch consoles. If the Switch OLED only offers an internal memory of 64 GB, we can look forward to 256 GB with Switch 2.
And apparently it should also fit a lot here: Anyone who had worried in advance that Switch 2 games could bring such large file packages with them that the internal memory of the new Nintendo console could quickly be taken up.
About the Japanese My Nintendo Store (via Videogame chronicle) has now been revealed how much space Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza take – and that’s not that much.
The most important information about the Nintendo Switch 2:
- Release: June 05, 2025 (among other things with Mario Kart World as a launch title)
- Price: The console will 469.99 euros (without game) costs. There will also be a Mario Kart World Bundle at a price of 509.99 euros
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are so big
Both Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are Switch 2-Exclusives that are supposed to fully exploit the power of the new console. MKW even brings a free roam/open world mode. That screams for many gigabytes, right? Wrongly thought:
- Mario Kart World: 23.4 GB
- Donkey Kong Bananza: 10 GB

Mario Kart World: The first real trailer is here and presents the name of Part 9
MKW thus takes around 10 percent of the internal storage space of 256 GBin direct comparison to the predecessor Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4.4 GB), of course, has nevertheless increased properly.
Small hint on the side: Of the 256 GB, a little fewer gigabytes should be free for you at the end of the day, since the operating system also also books storage space.
Other sizes of upcoming switch 2 titles:
- Super Mario Party: Jamboree (Switch 2 Edition) – 7.7 GB
- Kirby and the forgotten Land (Switch 2 Edition) – 5.7 GB
What memory expansion is there for Switch 2?
If the internal memory is full at some point, you either have to delete games or get a MicroSD Express that you need for the Switch 2. However, these are quite expensive: for 256 Gigabyte cards from Samsung and Sandisk, for example, at least just under 60 euros are due.
MicroSD Express memory cards have the advantage that you are much faster with a loading time of 900 megabytes per second than conventional microSDs and, for example, open world games faster.
Do you think the internal memory is enough for you or do you look around for an additional microSD for the Switch 2?
