According to a World Bank report, there is a shortage of 2.2 million skilled drivers in the country. This information was given by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. He stressed that many accidents are happening due to lack of good training. According to PTI news, during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, the Union Transport Minister said that the Center has launched a scheme of Rs 4,500 crore to set up a training institute for drivers.
1600 training institutes will be opened
According to the news, many accidents and deaths occur due to negligence driving. He said that 1600 training institutes will be set up in all states and union territories.
Gadkari said that it would generate more than 60 lakh employment. He said that all states and union territories have been requested to send appropriate proposals for the establishment of Driving Training and Research Institute (IDTR), Regional Driving Training Center (RDTC) and Driving Training Center (DTC) including cluster approach. Gadkari said that about 1.8 lakh people die every year due to road accidents and many of them die due to untrained drivers.
55.1 percent truck drivers weak
Earlier, a report revealed that about 55.1 percent of truck drivers in India are weak, while 53.3 percent need to improve distant vision and 46.7 percent need to treat near vision. According to this report prepared by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, about 44.3 percent of the drivers have body mass index (BMI) boundary line or higher, while 57.4 percent of blood pressure levels have increased and 18.4 percent was found to be found in the blood sugar boundary line or more.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari then said that India is facing significant challenges in the transport sector with a 70 percent traffic and transportation costs on the roads 14-16 percent.
