While the plant manager speaks of success, protests in the Tesla gigafactory Grünheide show the other side: why the workforce goes on the barricades.
A disgusted in the Tesla giga factory in Grünheide last week. During a speech by plant manager André Thierg, security forces became active and led a union representative from the hall, reports the “Handelsblatt”. Several men should call such as “What is this about this?” And “EY, calm down!” have disturbed the meeting.
The background is the smoldering conflict between IG Metall and Tesla management. The union has the strongest parliamentary group in the works council, but has no majority and is not allowed on the podium at meetings. Instead, trade unionists protested with banners against “lack of personnel, strong physical and psychological stress, pressure due to high target numbers and aggressive procedures of some managers”.
A petition for work overload, signed by 3,000 employees, demands additional paid breaks, more respect and more staff. Previously, IG Metall had already accused management of intimidating employees in the event of sick leave.
Regardless of the tensions, Tesla was confident for the Grünheide location. The factory now supplies 37 markets and have created over 11,000 jobs, emphasized Theried on March 21, 2025 to the dpa.
