391 people lynching in Nigeria since 2029
The video shared on social media saw fierce barbarity with the victims and then thrown into the fire of worn-up tires. Let us know that in the last decade, there has been an increase in the violence by mob in Nigeria. According to Amnesty International’s 2024 report, where attacks in the southern part of the country are often associated with allegations of theft and witchcraft, the north is lynching about the alleged blasphemy. In 2022, Lagos -based Research Group SBM Intelligence said that since 2019, there have been at least 391 mob murders in Africa’s most populous country.
14 suspects arrested in connection with the attack
Yamu said that 10 people were rescued from the group of victims in the attack on Thursday. He said that apart from this, 2 people are hospitalized due to injuries. Police spokesperson said 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. After visiting the spot, the Governor of the State, Mande Okepabholo, the Governor of the Edo state, said that criminals would face the outbreak of the law and will not be spared. Governor’s representative Solomon Osagale said in a statement, “No one has the right to kill any other person.”
Such incidents have happened in Nigeria before
After the attack, there is anger on social media as well. The politicians of the northern part of the country have condemned the murders. Please tell that such incidents have happened in Nigeria before. In 2012, 4 students of Port Harakourt University, one of the River State capital and Nigeria oil producing areas, were beaten to death on suspicion of being robbed. At that time too, there was anger across the country and the debate about the judicial system intensified. Many people believe that the victims killed in that incident never got justice. (Language)
