In March Marc-André Ter Stegen and his wife announced the end of their marriage. What followed was false reports about infidelity. The DFB star reacted-and now expresses himself again.
DFB goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen has cleared his trouble about his wife’s foreign rumors. At the beginning of March, he and Daniela Ter Stegen announced this from their marriage. Shortly afterwards, the mother of two was subordinate to the Barcelona star in the podcast “Que No Surti D’Aqui” of the Catalan State Radio. The 32-year-old reacted with an emotional post in which he vehemently denied these claims.
Now Ter Stegen spoke again in the “Bild” podcast “Phrasenmäher” about the incident. “What was reported there was completely unacceptable. I find it dramatic that something like this is simply said,” he said. His wife was most affected by the false report. “I was incredibly sorry for it because she didn’t deserve it. This is completely disrespectful and I find it crazy that these people had no shame not to cross such a border – especially since we have children.”
With the people, Ter Stegen says Juliana Canet, Roger Carandell and Marta Montanner. He had already tackled the three journalists in his post in March for her claims of Daniela Scharf. Shortly afterwards they apologized for their incorrect reporting (read more about this here).
“This is the first little step in the right direction,” said Ter Stegen now. But the consequences of the incident have not passed without a trace of him and his wife. “The fact that we got a lot of positive feedback on our reaction does not make me happier. In the end it was completely inappropriate. It is still irreparable.”
However, his personal relationship with Daniela, whom he married in 2017, still seems to be intact. “The time we had together will always be there. We have two fantastic children and are in the process of finding the right way for the new situation,” said Ter Stegen. His wife only lives away from him with them for five minutes. That is perfect for him. “I see the children every day, and as long as it is, I am the happiest person there is,” he said.
Ter Stegen is currently working on his comeback in the FC Barcelona goal. He had torn the patella tendon in his knee in September 2024. However, he recently returned to his club’s team training. When he will be back on the pitch in a competitive game is not yet clear. “I have a great team around me, endure every burden well and am hungry to play soon – without having an exact date in my head,” said Ter Stegen.
