Pilots of an Air Canada flight discover a disturbing defect over Italy. The decision is made immediately – the machine had to go down in Frankfurt.

Actually, it should go directly from Dubai to Toronto, but this plan suddenly changed over the Italian airspace on March 25: A Boeing 787-9 of the Air Canada had to dodge due to a technical problem, as the portal “The Aviation Herald” reports.

The crew of the AC-57 flight noticed a critical display-too little hydraulic fluid in the left system of the machine. Therefore, the pilots decided not to continue the risky flight over the Atlantic, but to land on the nearest suitable airport.

The choice fell on Frankfurt. Around an hour after the warning message, the Dreamliner landed safely on German soil with the identification C-Frse and its 304 inmates. The suspicion of the pilots was confirmed in the subsequent examination: The technicians found a leak in the return line of the engine pump.

For the passengers, this meant a significant delay in their travel plans. The airline organized a replacement aircraft-an Airbus A330-300-but the passengers only reached their original goal of Toronto six hours later than planned.

The stay for the affected Boeing took a long time: three full days – 80 hours – the Dreamliner stayed in Frankfurt before it was operational again after replacing the engine pump, return line and filter and was able to fly back to Canada, according to the “The Aviation Herald” report.
