Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Jerusalem: The Israeli top court on Friday blocked the decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sack the head of the country’s internal security service agency ‘Shin Bet’. The court said that the dismissal of ‘Shin Bet’ chief Ronen Bar would be stopped until his appeal is heard.
Ronen’s dismissal was banned
This decision of the Supreme Court came a few hours after the Prime Minister’s request to dismiss Ronen of Netanyahu cabinet as ‘Shin Bet’. The court said that it was staying on Ronen’s dismissal decision by 8 April and his appeal will be heard during this period. Netanyahu’s office said that Ronen’s dismissal would be effective from April 10, but if they get a new head in place, it can be effective before.
‘Cabinet does not have legal basis’
The Attorney General of Israel has ruled that the cabinet has no legal basis for sacking Ronen. In connection with the attacks carried out by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, the report of the security agency was accepted in the report of Shin Bet. However, the report also said that the policies of the Netanyahu government created situations that led to the attack. (AP)
