In an interview, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, spoke about the use of artificial intelligence and the opportunities associated with generative AI. Is human creativity to be replaced?

After the Detailed presentation the Switch 2 Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, spoke in several interviews on various topics.

Among other things, Bowser tried to defend the Switch 2 price. An undertaking, however was only successful to a limited extent. Another topic that the President of Nintendo of America commented on was the use of artificial intelligence or generative AI in the development of video games.

As Bowser explainedHe sees in AI tools tools that could increase productivity and enable developers to concentrate even more on the creative process. This in turn leads to better gaming experiences, from which the entire industry benefits.

AI cannot replace human creativity

The use of artificial intelligence is also becoming increasingly important in the world of video games, as Bowser granted. At the same time, however, the President of Nintendo of America emphasized that AI tools never become a replacement for human creativity.

“If we deal with technology, we always want to ensure that the technology that we use – be it for the development of our games or in our devices – creates a better gaming experience,” said Bowser. “This is a very important part of our decision -making process about the use of AI.”

Bowser continues: “AI is currently very popular and is being used in many ways. It can increase productivity. Even in my company, it can improve productivity and the way we do things. So this is an application. But I would say that if developers choose AI – and this is currently being discussed at Nintendo – Ki is not the only method for game development.”

“We still believe that the special thing about our games is our developers, their artistic skills and their insight into the way of playing the people. Therefore, there will always be a human touch and human commitment in the development and creation of our games.”

Great publishers supports Bowser’s statements

Strauss Zelnick recently commented in the same way, CEO of the US publishers Take-Two Interactive. In an interview, the latter asked himself whether AI techniques will eventually be able to play high-quality gaming experiences such as the upcoming Open World Blockbuster “GTA 6” to develop.

One question on which Zelnick delivered a clear answer. Just like Bowser, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive represents the view that AI tools are productive tools that cannot replace human intelligence and creativity.

“One of the questions that I often ask is: someone can just sit at home, Chatgpt-14 asking to create a GTA competitor, to program it, to deliver the marketing material-and let’s get started. I don’t believe in seconds that something like this happens”, explained Zelnick.

The CEO continues: “There is no evidence that such tools enable people to be creatively successful. So I do not think that we are in a situation in which generative AI will change the basic business dynamics. On the contrary.”
