The Federal Supreme Court (STF) summoned former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Wednesday, directly at the DF Star Hospital in Brasilia, about the beginning of the criminal action that accuses him of an attempt of coup.
According to allies, a bailiff personally appeared to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where Bolsonaro has been hospitalized since last day 11, after abdominal surgery. The delivery of the document was motivated by the former president’s participation in online broadcasts in recent days, which showed, according to the Court, that he was in a position to be cited.
“The disclosure of live by the former president on yesterday (22/4) demonstrated the possibility of being quoted and summoned today (23/4),” said the STF in an official note.
The formal subpoena marks the beginning of the count of five business days for the presentation of the defense in the process. This is a mandatory stage of the criminal action common to all defendants, who are accused of planning illegal measures to remain in power after defeat in the 2022 elections.

Despite the hospitalization, Bolsonaro has maintained public activities. On Monday (21), granted an interview by video to SBT BRAZIL directly from the bed. On Tuesday (22), he participated in a live with children Flávio, Eduardo and Carlos Bolsonaro, as well as former driver Nelson Piquet. The transmission was used to criticize the STF and promote a helmet brand that he and Flavio are partners.
The most recent medical bulletin, released on Tuesday, indicated that Bolsonaro has “good clinical evolution” and signs of intestinal movement, although he follows fasting and being powered by probe. The hospital maintained the recommendation of total restriction on visits, which did not prevent him from receiving PL President Valdemar Costa Neto in the ICU.

Ongoing criminal action
The subpoena had been determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes on the 11th for all eight reported in the so -called political core of the coup plot. Bolsonaro was the last to be notified. The other accused, such as Mauro Cid and Augusto Heleno, have already started the delivery of their defenses.
Bolsonaro is a defendant for attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, among other crimes. The Supreme Court also judges whether to receive other complaints presented by the Attorney General’s Office against different nuclei of the same organization.
