A port on Lake Constance has already dried out. In other places of the lake, the levels are also extremely low due to persistent dryness.
Germany’s most famous lake is losing more and more water. It has already dried out in large parts on Lower Sea, the water level has been the lowest in 40 years. The port of Mannenbach am Untersee around twelve kilometers west of Constance has dried out, said the Head of Heading in the environmental office of the Swiss Canton of Thurgau, Philemon Diggelmann.
394.55 meters above sea level were measured at the Berlingen location. The deep record for a April 1st was more than 40 years ago: 394.40 meters were measured on April 1, 1972. The long -term remedy is over 395 meters.
According to a report of the “picture”, the level is 70 centimeters lower than last year. A spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg State Office (LUBW) told the newspaper: “The water level is currently 2.73 meters. This is very low for this season. In the 1980s there were similarly low water levels.”
A resident reported that the water on the Rhine bridge had decreased by ten meters. The result: “it stinks disgusting”.
The cause of the low water level are low rains and little meltwater from the Alps. This is because there is less snow on the mountains in the catchment area of the Rhine that flows into Lake Constance than on the long -term average.
The outlook is bad: no precipitation can be expected in the next ten days with a stable high pressure position, nor should the amount of melting water increase, said Diggelmann. The forecast is that the level could continue to drop to around 394.30 meters by April 11th.
The water level is also very low at the upper part of Lake Constance, the so -called Obersee, but not as low as in Lower Sea. There are only guesswork why this is so, says Diggelmann. Possibly prevents algae prevents a stronger outflow through the Seerhein near Konstanz, which connects the Upper and Lower Sea.
