The G-123 Thermite Grenade is a new addition to the arsenal of Helldivers 2, brought in by the recently released Democratic Detonation Premium Warbond. This grenade is capable of burning through the armor of your targets, boasting the highest Penetration stat in the game. However, its effectiveness and reliability have been a topic of discussion among players.
Obtaining the G-123 Thermite Grenade
The G-123 Thermite Grenade is offered as part of April’s Democratic Detonation Warbond, which is available for 1,000 Super Credits. After purchasing this collection, you need to spend 15 Medals to claim the grenade from the first page of the Warbond.
Stats of the G-123 Thermite Grenade
Here are the stats of the G-123 Thermite Grenade:
- Damage: 100
- Penetration: 7
- Outer Radius: 2
- Fuse Time: 2.9 Seconds
- Traits: None
How to Use the G-123 Thermite Grenade
After equipping it to your loadout, you can deploy the G-123 Thermite Grenade using the G key on your Keyboard or the Right D-pad key on your controllers, the default mapping for all such throwables. You are provided with four of these grenades as standard, with the option to get two more charges while equipping armor like the GE-Trench Engineer.
Unlike other grenades, the Thermite sticks to a single target and starts heating upon impact. After dealing continuous damage during its fuse time, the grenade will explode, dealing additional damage to anything in its outer radius.
Effectiveness of the G-123 Thermite Grenade
While its description states that it burns through armor, it is the most effective against smaller enemies. The Thermite Grenade seems futile against elite or boss-type enemies, requiring a significant number of charges to deal damage and kill them. Additionally, many players reported that the grenade is very inconsistent, as it seems to bounce off the targeted spots of enemies, which when paired with its low radius, does little to no damage at all.
Wrap-Up
In comparison to the G-16 Impact, the new Thermite Grenade offers limited possibilities in terms of its usage. While it is capable of taking out Bile Titans and Annihilator Tanks with relative ease, it is unreliable and requires strategic planning to use them effectively. Although it does have its uses, most players will be far better using the Impact or the Stun Grenade to supplement their gunplay and stratagem use, rather than relying on the new Thermite Grenade.
