Young men are spreading on social media: so -called incels. About a dangerous ideology that is increasingly well received.
On April 23, 2018, a 25-year-old IT student raced in a small truck onto the Yonde Street sidewalk, a main traffic artery of the Canadian metropolis of Toronto. The young man killed 10 people on his amocran and injured 15 more. Previously, he had proclaimed the “Incel” rebellion on Facebook and referred to the perpetrator of a killing spree celebrated by “Incel”. It was the first time that the term “Incel” circulated.
These are men who stylize their sexual frustration into an ideology and exchange ideas on the Internet. Some of them radicalize and commit violent acts on behalf of the “Incel” movement. The movement was suitable for a concept of self -help that was originally supposed to give a voice. Subculture is not only increasingly dangerous for women.
With influencers like Andrew Tate or Nick Fuentes, misogynia has become fashionable. The hatred of women, especially in young people, catches. T-online reported some time ago about the descriptions of teachers who observed increasing sexism and hatred of women with their students. This development is the “Incel” ideology, which has brought young men to acts of violence for years.
“Incel” is a suitcase word from the English words “Involuntary” and “Celibate”. It describes people who involuntarily live celibacy – sexually abstinent. The term often serves as a self -designation for young men.
The term “Incel” itself has been around for a long time. In 1997 the Canadian student Alana created the floor to give shy people of all sexual orientations a platform. In this context, she founded the forum “Alana’s Involuntary Celibacy Project”. This also resulted in the abbreviation “Incel”, which should mainly stand for a positive self -image and self -love.
After leaving the forum in 2000, however, heterosexual young men took over both the term and the forum and from then on spread hatred and agitation there. These were primarily directed against women, but also against the LGBTQI movement. Gradually, a subculture developed from the original self -help group. To this day, this is lived out in misogynic forums – the so -called manosphere. But also on social media such as Instagram, Tikkok or Twitter, “Incel” influencers such as Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes spread their views.
The “Incel” ideology caught, especially with sexually or romantically rejected young men. They see themselves as men of the third class who are victims of lookism – so they believe that they experience discrimination because of their appearance. This is based on the assumption that you can measure attractiveness with a “sexual market value”.
This results in a hierarchy in which “Incels” are at the bottom. There are “Normies” and at the top are so -called “alphas”. Andrew Tate in particular always uses this term. He wants to make men become “alphas”. Because because of their physical attributes, these are sexually particularly successful in women.
Women are also divided into attractive (“stacies”) and less attractive (“Beckies”). In addition, women are mostly dehumanized and represented as evil. In this context, rape and other forms of violence against women are glorified.
The frustration of the “Incels” is primarily based on the fact that they are convinced that women are only based on having sexual contact with “alphas”. This leads to an imbalance in the choice of partner. In the past, partners of a similar “attractiveness stage” were chosen. This is no longer the case today, and “Incels” fell down. At least that’s the self -image of the “Incels”. Feminism is primarily to blame. Has of women is paired in the “Incel” ideology with racist and right-wing extremists.
This dangerous mixture is also increasingly noticeable outside the Internet. In addition to the AMORAURAGE from Toronto, there were other acts of violence that can be assigned to the “Incel” movement. In November 2018, a 40-year-old man shot two women in a yoga studio in Florida. Previously, he had known himself in various videos about the “Incel” movement.
In Germany, too, the “Incel” ideology-especially in connection with right-wing extremism-has already led to acts of violence. The perpetrator of the attack in Hanau in 2020, in which ten people died, is said to have often driven around in the manosphere, a loose, anti -feminist network on the Internet. As reported by the NDR, the assassin, who in 2019, was also said to have had a synagogue and a kebab snack in Halle (Saale) attack, connections to the “Incel” scene. Two people were killed in the attack.
