Barça escapes financial disaster around Dani Olmo

Relief at FC Barcelona and coach Hansi Flick: Spain’s sports court confirms Dani Olmo’s game permit. It has been going back and forth for months, so the club is avoiding a high loss of millions.
The tug of war between FC Barcelona and the Spanish Football Association RFEF and La Liga for the eligibility of the game for European champion Dani Olmo has come to an end. The country’s highest sports court confirmed the license of the ex-Leipziger and also that of his compatriot Pau Víctor with the Catalans.
The two professionals and the club had filed an appeal against the refusal of the game permit. The judges argued that the surveillance committee on the coordination agreement between RFEF and La Liga was not authorized to refuse the player licenses.
The back and forth around Olmo has to do with Barça’s financial difficulties. The highly indebted club was initially unable to present a solution to meet the conditions for registration. The breakthrough finally came through the sale of VIP lodges in the modernized stadium Camp Nou, although the team does not play there yet. An Arab investment fund is said to have paid 100 million euros. According to the association and league, Barcelona was only able to show this sum after the deadline.
If the game permit had finally been refused, a free transfer from Olmo would have threatened, who would have burdened Barça with over 260 million euros. When moving from RB Leipzig to Barcelona, the offensive midfielder signed a contract for 55 million euros by 2030 in the summer of 2024. He is entitled to the entire salary.
