Grand Calais Terres & Mers takes a decisive turn to the future of mobility with a strategic partnership signed with E-Totem, a pioneering company in charging services for electric vehicles. This initiative is part of an ambitious project aimed at transforming the territory into a model of energy transition, in consistency with the law of mobility orientation.
The call for expressions of interest launched by the agglomeration, in collaboration with fourteen other local authorities, will make it possible to deploy a network of 279 charging stations throughout the region. As early as mid 2025, users will be able to take advantage of these new infrastructures, and this project will end at the latest on December 31, 2026. This collective approach brings together several local players, including the cities of Calais, Coquelles, Marck, Sangatte, Blériot-Plage, Coulogne, attacks, Hames-Boucres, Nielles-lès-Calais, Bonningues-lès-Calais, Escalles, Saint-Tricat, the sygos for the Calais Coeur de Vie parking lot, as well as the Calais Techer hospital center.
The sites selected for the installation of the terminals were meticulously selected after an in -depth analysis of the needs of the inhabitants, carried out in collaboration with the local partners. The network will be designed to meet a wide range of needs, with suitable stations depending on the load speed and the number of points available. In addition, some stations will offer charging stations for electric bikes, thus extending the sustainable mobility solution to all modes of transport.
The energy provided by these terminals will come from Ekwateur, a renowned French company, which guarantees 100 % green and renewable electricity production. This approach is part of a common desire to reduce the carbon footprint while supporting the energy transition at the local level.
In addition to access to the terminals, residents of the agglomeration will benefit from preferential rates. The price of the recharge will vary between 30 and 49 cents per kilowatt hour, depending on the type of station and the load speed. Subscriptions will also be offered to provide competitive prices, close to those of a home recharge.
For an optimal user experience, a dedicated mobile application will be implemented, allowing users to locate the available terminals, manage their remote charging sessions, choose the load power and follow their invoicing in real time. This connected technology will greatly simplify the use of the charging network.
The total cost of the project, estimated at 3.5 million euros, will be financed entirely by e-totem. In order to ensure optimal terminals management, an additional rate will be applied ten minutes after the end of each recharge, thus encouraging users to quickly release the places. This postload rate will not apply at night, however, so as not to penalize users who recharge their vehicles during nighttime hours.
This project represents a decisive step for Grand Calais Terres & Mers, a territory that places innovation and sustainable mobility at the heart of its economic and ecological development.
