Monica Bedi was initially not special interested in acting, she loved dance more. She came to Mumbai to teach classical dance and started learning dance from Gopi Guru. During a dance session, veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar saw his talent. Impressed by his dance, he launched him with his son Kunal Goswami in the film ‘Kiritman’. Manoj Kumar signed Monica Bedi for 3 years. Under this, he was not allowed to do any other production film. Later production did not go on and Monica requested her to free her from the contract. Manoj agreed with him and then started searching for new work.
Many films flopped
Monica’s first film Taj Mahal was a big hit, due to which she got more offers from Telugu films. His growing popularity soon caught the attention of Bollywood makers and made his debut in Hindi film in ‘Suraksha’ (1995) with Saif Ali Khan. He had no guru or strong support in the industry, so Monica signed several films without any plan. Unfortunately, films like ‘Aashiq Mastane’, ‘Toy’, ‘Ek Phool Teen Kant’ and ‘Tirchi cap’ failed at the box office, which damaged her career. During this, he also did stage shows in India and abroad.

Aashiqui reaches jail
Monica met underworld don Abu Salem during one of her shows in Dubai. Their friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship. Abu used his influence to recommend Monica to the top manufacturers and directors of the industry. As a result, he got work in films like ‘Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat’, ‘Tada’ and ‘Jodi No. 1’. Monica decided to leave the film industry to settle down with Abu Salem. In 2002, both went to Portugal but were arrested for using fake documents to enter the country. He spent almost two and a half years in Portuguese jail before being sent to India. Monica was sentenced to five years in prison by the CBI court, which was later reduced to three years by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

After completing the jail sentence, Monica Bedi tried to return to the reality shows like ‘Bigg Boss 2’ and ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’. He also worked in TV serials like ‘Saraswati Chandra’ and ‘Bandhan’.
