Including technically demanding staging: Diego is celebrated in his farewell game in the Bremen Weser Stadium. It becomes emotional.

In an emotional farewell game, 42,000 spectators in the Bremen Weser Stadium celebrated the former Bundesliga star Diego again. The 40-year-old Brazilian experienced a special surprise.

A meter-high shining robot made the most famous goal of the ex-footballer during the event: In April 2007, Diego for Werder Bremen hit Alemannia Aachen from a distance of 62.5 meters. The goal, which has now been spectacularly staged, is one of the unforgettable moments in Diego’s career at the Bremern.

In honor of Diego, a selection of Werder legends such as Ailton, by Mertesacker and Torsten Frings met for an international team with the Brazilian world champion Cafu, Portuguese European champion Nani or Diego’s son Davi. The 14-year-old plays in the youth team of the popular Brazilian club Flamengo.

Diego himself ran for both teams for a half. In the last minute he converted a penalty to 6: 5 for the Bremen and then left the field under the cheers of the entire stadium. Greetings from stars such as Ronaldo, Romario or Kaka were recorded on the stadium screen.

“Thank you for everyone,” said Diego about the stadium speakers. “I love Werder Bremen!” The former midfielder played for the German Club from 2006 to 2009. Despite other stations at Juventus Turin, VfL Wolfsburg, Fenerbahce Istanbul and FC Porto, he calls this time his most important and best in Europe.

“He is one of the most spectacular players who have ever played for Werder and also in the Bundesliga,” said Werder captain and later Werder managing director Frank Baumann. Torsten Frings also said: “The backdrop is mega. But he also deserved it. He showed outstanding achievements for three years. People don’t forget that.”
