Destiny 2, the popular online multiplayer video game, has given its players a big surprise. Today, they added more new Player versus Player (PvP) maps than they have in the last two years combined. This is a big deal for fans of Destiny 2’s Crucible PvP mode. They haven’t had so much new stuff to look forward to in a long time.

As part of an update today, three new maps have been added to the Crucible. These maps are part of a new PvP Map Pack for Into the Light. This is the last update before The Final Shape, another big update, launches in just under a month.

The three new maps are designed for six-vs-six gameplay. This means that up to 12 players can play against each other at the same time. The maps are set in different locations and are available for all players for free right now. The first map, Eventide Labs, is based on the Beyond Light DLC’s Europa. The second map, Cirrus Plaza, is found on Lightfall’s Neomuna. The third map, Dissonance, can be found on a Pyramid ship belonging to The Witness’s fleet.

Between the second and eighteenth seasons of the game, Destiny 2 added 17 maps. There was a steady flow of new content, with multiple maps being added in seasons two through four. This trend mostly continued in seasons eight through ten. However, there was a big gap after that. No new maps were added between seasons eleven and sixteen. In 2022, during seasons seventeen and eighteen, one new map was added in each season. Another map was added in season twenty-two last year.

Today, the same number of maps were added as were added in the entire time between May 2022 and August 2023. This might sound crazy, but it’s true. The Crucible mode of the game took a back seat over the past few years. But now, with a renewed focus, new content has been added that players have been waiting for a very long time.

With The Final Shape just around the corner, PvP fans might have to enjoy these three new maps for the foreseeable future. Bungie, the company that makes Destiny 2, has not announced a future release date for any new maps yet. But it’s possible that more maps could be added, or old ones could be brought back, throughout 2024 and beyond. So, Destiny 2 players have a lot to look forward to!
