During a recent Xbox Partner Presents stream, Square Enix unveiled a captivating new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV, teasing some extra bonus perks for Xbox Game Pass owners. From March 21 through April 19, Game Pass Ultimate members can claim a Starter Edition, which includes the base game and its first two expansions, Heavensward and Stormblood. In the lead-up to the official release, the beta version remains available for those eager to get a taste of the game.
Final Fantasy XIV has been a remarkable success story for Square Enix over the past decade. Despite a rocky start with its initial release in 2010, the developers took player feedback to heart, leading to a complete overhaul of the game. The revised version, aptly named A Realm Reborn, was launched in 2013 to widespread acclaim, marking a significant turnaround for the franchise. Since then, the game has amassed a loyal following on PC and PlayStation platforms, bolstered by the release of four expansions, including the latest ones, Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
However, the journey to Xbox has been a long one, with fans and potential players expressing disappointment over the lack of an Xbox version. Square Enix attributed this to business considerations and the stance of platform holders on cross-play. Xbox chief Phil Spencer addressed these concerns in 2019, assuring fans that Final Fantasy XIV was indeed destined for Xbox One. Now, nearly five years later, the game is finally set to launch on Xbox Series X|S.
Looking ahead, another expansion, Dawntrail, is slated for release this summer. This expansion will transport players to a tropical paradise, where they will participate in a rite of succession to choose the new ruler of Tural. Dawntrail will also introduce a level cap increase, new jobs, gear, recipes, and, of course, dungeons. Accompanying the expansion will be a 7.0 patch, which promises improved graphics for all players.
As we eagerly await the Xbox debut of Final Fantasy XIV and the release of the Dawntrail expansion, stay tuned for more updates and announcements from the Xbox Partners stream. The world of Final Fantasy XIV is about to get even more exciting, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
