For the time being, Audi stops vehicle deliveries to the USA, Trump’s new car tariffs are triggered. The current stocks should only be sufficient for a few weeks.
The Ingolstadt car manufacturer Audi puts the delivery of vehicles to the United States on hold due to the auto tariffs of US President Donald Trump. A company spokeswoman confirmed a corresponding letter to the dealers on Monday, about which the “automotive week” had initially reported.
According to this, all vehicles that have come to the USA after April 2 should be held back and not handed over to the dealers there. The dealers should now concentrate on reducing their inventory. Audi currently has more than 37,000 cars in stock in the United States that are not affected by the new tariffs and could be sold, the spokeswoman said. That is enough for about two months.
Audi does not have its own production facility in the USA and has to import all vehicles. The US bestseller Q5 is manufactured in the Audi plant in Mexico, the rest comes from the works in Germany, Hungary and Slovakia.
The Audi mother Volkswagen also warned its dealers in the United States and announced additional costs, as the “Wall Street Journal” reported last week. VW temporarily stopped the delivery of vehicles by train from Mexico and the ports, the newspaper reported on a message to the dealers.
There should be clarity about pricing by mid -April. Since April 3, tariffs have been in the USA of 25 percent in addition to the previous taxes of 2.5 percent. From May, 150 categories of car parts of the surcharge are also recorded.
According to a newspaper report, the car supplier and technology group Bosch plans further investments in the United States. “We are still underrepresented in the United States. We have a strategic topic, also regardless of customs questions,” said Bosch Managing Director Stefan Hartung of the “Welt” according to the preliminary report.
Due to the customs offensive of the USA, Hartung expects additional pressure for the German and the European economy, especially for the automotive industry: “To transport vehicles and components between continents back and forth.
