The central government has said that the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj was within 2025 and then within safe standards to bathe the water quality of the Ganges river. The Ministry of Water Power said in the Lok Sabha that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) monitored the water quality at eight major ghats of Ganga, such as Shringverpur, Sangam and Diha Ghat. Monitoring from 12 January to 20 February

The monitoring was done from 12 January to 20 February 2025 during the Amrit bath and related dates. The ministry said that 250 km long temporary drainage, biimidiation pond and mobile sewage treatment plants were used during the fair. At the same time, after the fair was over, all the arrangements were removed safely and stored for future reuse.

323 out of 502 projects so far

Out of 502 projects so far under the ‘Namami Gange’ scheme, 323 have been completed, work on 150 is going on and 29 are in tender process. Even in an independent assessment, the program has been described as successful for pollution and local participation. According to the Ministry of Water Power, positive results reflect the hygiene and the effectiveness of waste water management systems implemented during the fair.
