West Bengal: Former MP’s house attack from TMC attacked, miscreants bombed, one injured

Unidentified miscreants thrown bombs and opened fire outside the residence of BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh in Bhatpara, West Bengal. Police said on Thursday that a young man was injured in this attack on Wednesday night. Singh and his close associates chased the attackers and forced him to escape. On Thursday afternoon, the police called Singh for questioning at Jagdal police station.

Sources said that when he did not appear, a police team led by Madhusudan Mandal, in -charge of Jagdal police station, reached his residence in the evening. A large number of police forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, were deployed in the area to control the situation.

Arjun Singh accused former councilor

Officials said several empty cartridges and live bombs were recovered from the scene. Barrackpore Police Commissioner Ajay Thakur said, “The situation is now under control. People involved will not be spared. Legal action will be taken against the culprits.” According to police sources, violence erupted after a dispute between two groups working in Meghna jute mill in the area. Singh alleged that Namit Singh, son of Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor Sunita Singh, is behind the attack.

Indiscriminate firing and bombing

The former MP claimed, “He fired in front of the police. Indiscriminate firing and bombing.” TMC Jagdal MLA Somnath Shyam accused Singh and his supporters of inciting violence. “Arjun Singh and his people attacked those working in Meghna Jute Mill and fired bullets. The young man was shot and three to four people were injured in his group attack. We demand immediate arrest of Singh, otherwise we will protest a big protest.” However, Singh denied the allegations and claimed that he was inside his house at the time of firing.

What did former MPs say?

Arjun Singh told reporters, “I suddenly heard the sound of two rounds of bullets at around 10:30 pm. I was in my office inside my house. When I came out, I saw some people running. A young man was injured and the locals took him to the hospital.” Singh said that he had lodged a complaint with the police by email immediately after the incident, but alleged that no action was taken on his complaint and instead the notice was issued to him.

Injured youth admitted in Kolkata

Arjun Singh said, “I later came to know that an FIR has been lodged against me. The police did not take action on my complaint, but called me for questioning. I did not appear before him.” Officials said that patrolling in Bhatpara has been increased to prevent further situation. Police said the injured youth was first rushed to Bhatpara State General Hospital and later his condition deteriorated and was transferred to a hospital in Kolkata. (Input-PTI)
