Alexander Wehrle talks about an important entertainment with his own parents in a podcast – and the CEO of VfB Stuttgart remembers the reaction.
With VfB Stuttgart, Alexander Wehrle was only able to cheer on the finale of the DFB Cup on Wednesday. After the 3-1 win in the semi-finals against RB Leipzig, the Swabians will meet Arminia Bielefeld on May 24th in Berlin on Cup surprise.
In the podcast “Spielmacher-Football from all sides”, VfB CEO Wehrle opened openly to a drastic personal step: “I was stupid that I was out of the time on Christmas Eve, that was really a stupid time,” Wehrle recalled in conversation to talk to his parents about his homosexuality for the first time. “I was 23 years old.”
The step was not easy anyway: “It was a difficult situation because very emotional. You have to know: My father comes from another generation, which is why I was not angry with him for his reaction.” It was different with Wehrle’s mother: “This was” handled with it because she probably knew that anyway and has a gay brother. “
Wehrle has been CEO of VfB Stuttgart since March 2022, followed in the position on Thomas Hitzlsperger. Previously, the manager was managing director of 1. FC Köln from 2013 to 2022. In August 2024, Wehrle married his long -time partner.
