These names are Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt, who chose each other through different religions. Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt married in 1958 and both of them fell together in 1981. Priya Dutt recently talked about the time of her mother’s death in a conversation with Vicky Lalwani and said – ‘When my mother was admitted in the hospital, my father was not ready to eat anything. They were constantly smoking and were very upset. In such a situation, we had to take care of them, see whether they were eating something or not, because we could not lose them. This time was also very difficult for Sanjay. At the same time, his first film was Ani. Mother had said that the release of the film should not be delayed. She had said that she would come to see the film on the stretcher, but she died 3-4 days before the release of Sanjay’s film. This time was very difficult for Sanjay. He was sad that the mother would not be able to see his career flying.
What was Nargis Dutt’s last wish?
Meanwhile, Priya told how her father Sunil Dutt had to listen to the taunts after fulfilling his wife’s last wish. He said- ‘Rocky premiered and we left a seat vacant for the mother next to Papa. His funeral was a very unrealistic scene. My father, of course, came to priests from everywhere who came to pray for him. But he said- ‘Many people told me that he was married to a Hindu, so his (Nargis Dutt) should be cremated in a Hindu way.’ But he said- ‘No, it was his wish to be buried, and we will do everything according to their wish.’

Priya Dutt further said- ‘After the death of the mother, Papa insisted on burying her. My mother wanted her to be buried next to her mother. When we came home with his body, media persons had also reached there and one of them asked me how I feel. I must have said something, because after this Papa took us to a room and said that if we cry and scream, then we should do it here, because we have to maintain restraint outside. ‘ Let me tell you, Sunil Dutt had to face a lot of criticism for burial of Nargis.

Further, Priya Dutt told how Sunil Dutt was completely broken after Nargis’s death. He was so saddened by Nargis’s death that he was also having difficulty in doing small things. He would get up at midnight several times and go to his grave and would sit there for hours. But, then he realized that he would have to stay there for his children, especially son Sanjay, who was trapped in drug addiction. For son Sanjay, he came out of his grief overnight.
