An already imprisoned Berlin palliative doctor is said to have killed more people than initially assumed. Corpses were excavated
The accused palliative doctor has been in custody since August 2024. At that time the public prosecutor had assumed 4 victims. In the course of the investigation, in which corpses were also excavated and examined by forensic doctors, the number of alleged victims rose: only to 8, then to 10 – now the investigators assume 15. The number could continue to increase because the investigation continues.
Nevertheless, the case with the indictment should now come before the Berlin Regional Court. At the same time, the investigative group of the Murder Department of Murder in the Berlin State Criminal Police (LKA) evaluates further documents from the medical patients. Notes from others – such as nursing services – also play a role.
Patients administered “deadly mixture”
The doctor is said to have committed the actions for a nursing service as part of his work. Palliative doctors accompany seriously ill people to relieve their pain. According to the public prosecutor, the patients concerned were not in an acute period of death at the time of the crime.
The previously known deaths go back to 2021. According to the public prosecutor, the 40-year-old is said to have administered a fatal mixture of different drugs in September 2021 without medical indication to kill them. So it was said to have been in later cases.
Fires in patients trigger investigations
The doctor, who worked in several federal states, initially got to the sights of the investigators because of four cases in the period from June 11 to July 24, 2024. During this time, he is said to have killed four people between the ages of 72 and 94 in their apartments in Berlin.
The investigations were triggered by the fires that the doctor is said to have laid to cover the killings. The police determined the result of an arson. The doctor increasingly came into focus. According to the public prosecutor, the nursing service for which the accused had worked.
