The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the Indian nurse Nimisha Priya case, who was sentenced to death in Yemen till 14 August. During the hearing on the matter on Friday, the Central Government said that they are helping all possible in the Nimisha Priya case. Nimisha has been sentenced to death on charges of killing a person in Yemen. Nimisha was to be sentenced to death on 16 July. However, with the efforts of the government and the help of a Muslim religious leader from Kerala, the death sentence of Nimisha Priya has been postponed.

The Supreme Court was informed on Friday that the hanging of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, which is facing a death sentence in Yemen in Yemen, has been stopped at the moment. Attorney General R.K. Venkataraman told the bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta that efforts are on to save the nurse in the case. He said that the government wants Priya to come back safely. The bench also accepted it. The lawyer appearing on behalf of the petitioner said that Nimisha will have to get an apology from the family of the deceased Mahdi first and then the issue of blood money would come after that. The petitioner informed the court that the execution has been postponed. The bench then deferred the hearing of the case till 14 August.

Appeal to save Nimisha in the petition

The petition demanded a directive to the Central Government that the government should save 38 -year -old Indian nurse Nimisha Priya through all possible diplomatic mediums. Nimisha Priya, a resident of Palakkad district of Kerala, was convicted of killing a business partner of her Yemen in 2017. He was sentenced to death in 2020 and his final appeal was rejected in 2023. Nimisha is currently imprisoned in the jail of Sana, the capital of Yemen.
