In the 2006 Mumbai train blast case, the Supreme Court has stayed the Bombay High Court’s decision by giving a big blow to the accused. The Bombay High Court acquitted all the 12 accused of the explosion in its recent judgment. The High Court’s decision was challenged by the Maharashtra government in the Supreme Court.
Significantly, 187 people died in the 2006 Mumbai train blast, while more than 800 people were injured. After the Bombay High Court’s decision, no one was responsible for these blasts. Earlier, five of the 12 convicts were sentenced to death and seven were sentenced to life imprisonment and one person was acquitted in the case. The decision of the lower court was overturned by the High Court.
