Land-for-Jobs Scam: Supreme Court Refuses to Stay Trial Court Prosedings Against Lalu Yadav-Amar Ujala Hindi News Live

In the job scam case in exchange for land, the Supreme Court has given a shock to RJD supremo Lalu Yadav. The court has refused to stay the lower court proceedings against Lalu Prasad Yadav. Also, the Delhi High Court has been directed to expedite the hearing of the case. However, the Supreme Court has given some relief to Lalu Yadav, giving exemption from appearance in the proceedings of the lower court.

A bench of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh was hearing the plea of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The bench requested the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing on their petition to cancel the CBI’s FIR. Please tell that the RJD supremo had reached the Supreme Court on the previous day to demand relief. Earlier, this demand of Lalu Yadav was refused by the Delhi High Court. The Delhi High Court had said that there is no concrete reason to stop the proceedings. The High Court had issued a notice to the CBI and adjourned the hearing for August 12.

What did Lalu Prasad Yadav say in the petition?

In his petition, Lalu Prasad Yadav demanded the CBI’s FIR and three chargesheets and cognition orders filed in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He has said that the report was reported in 2022 with a delay of 14 years. While the CBI was closed after the CBI filed a closure report before the competent court. He has said that starting a new investigation by hiding the previous investigation and its closure report is misuse of the law. He has argued that he is suffering from illegal investigation. Which is a violation of their fundamental right to fair investigation. Both current investigation and inquiry are illegal, as both have been started without compulsory approval. Any investigation conducted without such approval will be invalid from the beginning.

What is the matter of land in lieu of job?

Officials said that the matter is related to the appointments of Group D in the western central region of Indian Railways in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The appointment was made between 2004 and 2009 during Lalu’s being a railway minister. In exchange for these appointments, people gifted or transferred pieces of land in the name of RJD supremo’s family or colleagues. On 18 May 2022, a case was registered against Lalu and his wife, two daughters, unknown government officials and private persons including others.

Approval has been received to prosecute even in money laundering case

Earlier, in a money laundering case related to job scam in exchange for alleged land, the ED had told a Delhi court on 14 May that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav had been approved to prosecute. The scam took place when Lalu Prasad was the Union Railway Minister. On May 8, President Draupadi Murmu allowed Lalu to be prosecuted in the money laundering case. The President gave permission under Section 197 (1) (Section 218 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023 of the CRPC).
