Research reveals hygienic defects in numerous Kaufland branches, also in Berlin. Now the company has reacted.

Mice, mold and germs: A joint research team from “Stern” and “RTL” has uncovered hygienic defects in numerous Kaufland supermarkets. According to the revelations, a branch in Berlin-Reinickendorf is also affected. However, the company did not comment on the concrete defects in the Berlin branch on T-Online.

Kaufland only announces that he wanted to react to which revelations with a “5-point plan”, it said. Among other things, he pretends to subject all branches of basic cleaning and to invest half a billion euros annually in new refrigerated furniture. Further measures are planned for individual branches. The company did not comment on measures in the affected branch in Ollenhauerstrasse in Berlin.

Jochen Kratz, board member of Kaufland Germany, said: “The images shown in no way correspond to our standards in dealing with food and cleanliness.” In order to better control hygiene in the branches, Kaufland will access independent, external institutes in the future.

In addition, according to the company, all employees for freshness and hygiene are also trained and so -called “fresh coaches” are used.

During an undercover research by “Team Wallraff-Reporter Undercover”, severe hygiene defects were found in several Kaufland branches. In over 80 percent of the 50 markets checked, the reporters disguised as an employee documented the freezing chests, and the sale of expired or spoiled goods in two branches.

According to RTL, the research is based on information from employees and lasted almost a year. Employees of the “Stern” were also involved.
