He National Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) officially presented the National Electronic Identity Document 3.0 (Dnie 3.0), A renewed version of the identity document that seeks to modernize the citizen identification system in Peru and position it as a regional reference.
DNIE 3.0 has 64 security elementsincluding a latest generation cryptographic chip, which makes it a robust tool against falsification and identity theft.
This new version not only identifies the citizen physically, but also digital, allowing safe access to electronic services.
Version 3.0 of the electronic ID has a tumi hologram incorporated, which protects the user photography.

Among its main novelties, the Electronic signature incorporated, which allows to validate digital documents with the same legal validity as a handwritten firm. This will facilitate online procedures and reduce the need to go to physical offices.
Also, thanks to your near field communication technology (NFC)the new DNI can interact directly with mobile phones and other devices, expanding its usefulness in digital environments such as health applications, banking, education or municipal services.
“This new ID has 64 assurances, the previous one was only 15. We have at least 42 assurances in the chip itself and 22 securities,” said Carmen Velarde, head of the RENIEC, in response to the management consultation.

The DNIE 3.0 has a unique design, with images alluding to the coast, mountains and jungle of Peru.

Prepared for the future: digital vote
One of the strategic objectives of this new version is its role in the future implementation of the Electronic vote In the elections.
According to Carmen Velarde, head of the RENIEC, this renewed document may be used in the general elections of 2026.
“In principle, members of the Armed Forces and the National Police can use this DNIE 3.0 through the digital vote; also the people who decide that they can use this vote mechanism,” Velarde said.

Cost and access
Reniec will start campaigns to promote their obtaining, especially among those who still have the blue or yellow ID. The process to obtain DNIE 3.0 It will cost S/ 41.
“Our expectation is to reduce the costs to reduce it because this is the ID that will cover the entire Peru,” said the head of the Reniec.

This version incorporates an invisible UV security design, with figures from the heads of the Chavín culture and El Gallito de las Rocas.
