Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju targeted senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal and described him as an average lawyer and said that he could not impose his personal agenda on Parliament. Kiren Rijiju’s statement came at a time when Kapil Sibal said that the opposition should not support any government impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma until the investigation of impeachment against Justice Shekhar Yadav begins.

Kiren Rijiju said in an interview, ‘I came to know that Kapil Sibal is trying to save someone and take action against someone. They are senior, but run from private agenda. They have nothing to do with the good of others. He further said, ‘I have asked him to give some time in Parliament. They think that they will go to court by giving speeches to MPs. But they do not understand that there are many members in Parliament who are more intelligent and knowledgeable than them.

Can not make Sibal a guide to Parliament- Rijiju

The Union Minister further said, ‘Kapil Sibal is an average lawyer, but he has been confused that he can throw light on everything. They cannot give direction to Parliament. Parliament runs through the collective thinking of all members, not with the views of any one lawyer-Sansad. He also said that the process of removing a judge in Parliament is under the prescribed rules and Parliament is the only platform where the Supreme Court or High Court judge can be removed.

Refusal to comment on impeachment motion

Kiren Rijiju said that the Parliament session is going to start from July 21, so he will not comment on the proposal or idea of removing any judge. He reiterated that, ‘We are working in the interest of the country, not on anyone’s personal agenda. Not a single person, all members run the Parliament together.
