IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer told his captaincy innings after winning

Shreyas Iyer performed amazing in his debut match as the captain of Punjab Kings on 25 March. He scored an unbeaten 97 innings, defeating Gujarat Titans by 11 runs. Iyer described this innings as ‘Gold Par Suhaga’, as he not only contributed significantly to the team but also proved himself as the captain of a new franchise. Iyer scored 97 runs off 42 balls in his explosive innings with the help of 9 sixes and 5 fours, making Punjab Kings score a huge score of 243 runs for five wickets. In response, the Gujarat Titans team could reach 232 runs after losing five wickets.

After the victory, Iyer expressed happiness that it is ‘icing on gold’ to score 97 runs in his first match, captaining Punjab. He said that it was important for him to mold himself according to the circumstances. Hiring a four off the first ball, his confidence increased and the sixes off Rabada to strengthen his rhythm.

Captain praised fellow players fiercely

Iyer also praised other batsmen of the team, especially Shashank Singh and Priyansh Arya. He said there was an additional bounce on the pitch, but the batsmen quickly adapted themselves. Shashank further strengthened the team’s score by scoring 44 runs in 16–17 balls. Iyer said that the scenario of the match could change due to dew, but the team was adamant on its strategy.

Vijaykumar Vaishakh and Arshdeep Singh, who contributed significantly to bowling, also praised Iyer. He said that Vaishakh’s attitude is very positive and he bowled brilliantly under pressure. At the same time, Arshdeep also played an important role, especially by taking advantage of the help from reverse swing and saliva, contributed to win the team.

Lucknow will fight in second match

Punjab Kings have cleared their intentions by defeating Gujarat in their first match. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of performance the Punjab team is to perform in the coming matches under Iyer’s captaincy. The Punjab team will play their second match on 1 April. In this match, Iyer’s team will face Lucknow Super Giants.
