Former India captain Anil Kumble believes that in the third Test match played against England at Lord’s, all -rounder Ravindra Jadeja should have played an aggressive shot instead of giving a strike to Mohammad Siraj against spinner Shoaib Bashir. However, describing Jadeja’s innings as miraculous, he said that India was largely successful in making a comeback in the match with the lower -order batsmen struggle with Jadeja, but faced defeat by 22 runs.

Jadeja was just 22 runs away from the team target. Kumble said that Jadeja was successful in the plan to bring India so close to victory, but England did not take any laxity. Jadeja was stealing a run on the fourth or fifth ball of most over, but Kumble believes that he should have risked against low -speed bowlers.

‘Jadeja should have attacked by selecting bowlers’

Kumble said, ‘Jadeja should have selected the bowlers against whom he could take an aggressive stance. Chris Woakes, Joe Root and Bashir were such bowlers. Bashir and Root may be off -spinners, but their ball was not taking too much turn. If someone had to take risks, he was Jadeja who should have done so. He did a good job by keeping a more strike with Bumrah and Siraj during his batting, but it was risky to give Siraj to Bashir’s full over. They should have adopted an aggressive stance in its place.

Kumble also praised Jadeja’s unbeaten 61 runs

Kumble, praising Jadeja’s unbeaten 61 -run combative innings, said that he had almost done a miracle by reaching India 170 runs, chasing the target of 193 runs to win. Kumble said, ‘He was the best, he had come to bat in the sixth over of the day and remained unbeaten till the end. It is incredible to double the score after falling 7 wickets at 82 with Bumrah and Siraj.

1999 defeat pain over Pakistan

Kumble was reminded of the Test against Pakistan in Chennai, in which Sachin Tendulkar scored 136 runs despite back pain, but the Indian team had to face defeat by 12 runs. In that match, Jawagal Srinath’s dismissal off off the off -spinner Sakalain Mushtaq was similar to the ball dropping the gills of Siraj’s stumps on Monday. Kumble, who was part of the team in the Test match played in Chennai in January 1999, said, ‘I remembered the Test match played against Pakistan in Chennai, in which we lost by 12 runs. Siraj’s dismissal was the same.
