The future of the controversial heating law is uncertain. Many people therefore secure funding from the state KfW. Their CEO makes a clear announcement.
The uncertain future of state funding climate -friendly heating in Germany makes the demand for funds at KfW suddenly rise. By the end of March, 315,000 grant applications were granted, especially for heat pumps with a total volume of 4.5 billion euros. At the end of 2024 there were 227,000 applications of around 3.3 billion euros.
“As of today: the heating promotion is running and the KfW is ready with sufficient budgets,” said KfW boss Stefan Wintels. “Every citizen can rely on KfW’s promise.” Wintels emphasized: “We have enough budget so that we can also edit the applications that are still coming. The program runs until there is a new program.”
With the heating law- officially building energy network- the installation of climate-friendly heating systems is to be promoted and the exchange of old gas and oil heating systems is promoted. The version of the law, which is still on the way by the traffic light coalition, has been retrospectively applies since January 1, 2024.
The Union had repeatedly announced before the advanced Bundestag election to want to abolish the Reformed Heating Act. In the coalition negotiations with the SPD, this is one of the controversial topics. So far, it is unclear what a promotion of climate -friendly heating could look like in the future.
Overall, the KfW sees itself well positioned despite a decline in profits last year. “We are well prepared to accompany the federal government’s modernization and growth course,” says Wintels. This also applies to KfW activities abroad: the export nation Germany continues to focus on global networking.
Last year, the KfW borne by the federal and state governments achieved a group profit of a good 1.4 (previous year: 1.56) billions of euros. The support bank declared the decline in that it used significantly more own funds in the funding in 2024.
The KfW provides medium -sized companies, house builders and students with low -interest loans in Germany. There are also export and project financing, the promotion of developing and emerging countries as well as the daughter KfW Capital for investments in start-ups. Last year, the KfW banking group submitted a total of 112.8 billion euros in fresh funding and thus a little more than a year earlier (111.3 billion euros).
