Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has got a new responsibility in his daughter Maryam Nawaz’s government in Punjab province. The Punjab government has appointed former three -time former Prime Minister Sharif as the Chief Conservator of Lahore Heritage Reforition Authority (LAHR). Nawaz will now monitor the revival of several buildings of the colonial era in Lahore.

The party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan sarcasted the president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and congratulated him for getting a government ‘job’. Opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shaukat Basra told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ on Thursday, “Nawaz Sharif was living a retired life after his party’s derogatory defeat in the 2024 elections. Imran Khan’s mandate was taken away. Khan’s mandate was given to the parties of Nawaz and Zardari. ”

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has sought a comprehensive plan from Wald City Authority Lahore to restore Lahore’s legacy. Sharif said, “The old Lahore is beautiful and should be restored in its original form. It is a national duty to preserve our lost heritage.”

Nawaz Sharif’s political journey

First time (1990–1993)

Nawaz Sharif’s entry into politics took place in the 1980s when he became the Chief Minister of Punjab. Sharif became the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the first time in 1990. However, he had to resign in 1993 due to differences with President Ghulam Ishaq Khan.

Second time (1997–1999)

In 1997, Nawaz Sharif took power for the second time. During this tenure, he made Pakistan a nuclear power by conducting a nuclear test (1998), which led to his popularity. However, his government was overshadowed by General Pervez Musharraf in 1999 and was forced to leave the country.

Third time (2013-2017)

Nawaz Sharif became Prime Minister for the third time in 2013. During this tenure, he launched projects like CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor). But in 2017, he was disqualified by the Supreme Court due to allegations of corruption in the Panama Papers case and removed from the post. (Language)
