The government has completed the redevelopment of 104 railway stations across the country so far under the Amrit Bharat Yojana. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information on Friday. He informed that under this scheme, 1,300 railway stations are to be redeveloped across the country. According to PTI news, under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, the entire railway network is to make stations better and modern and provide better facilities to the passengers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the station redevelopment scheme in 2023.
132 railway stations are in Maharashtra
According to the news, Ashwini Vaishnav said that out of 1,300 stations, many of the stations are scheduled to complete redevelopment work, of which 132 are in Maharashtra. Remarkable progress in work is going on at many other stations. Vaishnav said that there has been no station redevelopment project on this scale anywhere in the world. The minister showed pictures of the work running at the stations included under the scheme, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) of Mumbai, which is being developed as a world class train facility.
Estimated cost Rs 1,800 crore
The Union Minister said that the renewal work of CSMT station is very large, which is an estimated cost of Rs 1,800 crore and is running at a very fast speed. He said that on completion of the redevelopment work, the British period in South Mumbai will look much better than the King’s Cross Station in CSTM London. Vaishnav said that the aim of this scheme is to equip the stations with modern facilities like waiting lounge, food court, clean toilets, lifts, escalators and digital facilities.
Some major stations included under the scheme
Apart from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, there are some major stations included in Maharashtra: Dadar (Central and West), Andheri (Mumbai), Pune, Nashik Road, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar etc. Vaishnav said that the Center has already approved the doubling of a 240-km strategic corridor Gondia-Ballarshah railway line in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 4,819 crore.
Explaining the importance of the project, he said that doubling of Godia-Ballarshah railway line will make a separate corridor available from north to south. The minister said that this important project will strengthen the railway connectivity of Maharashtra with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, which will boost regional trade and integration.
