Söder: “This is almost the German Marshallplan”

The Bundestag has already approved the Union and SPD debt plans for upgrading and infrastructure. Is the country chamber also right now?

The Union and SPD’s billion-dollar financial package must take the last hurdle in the Federal Council on Friday. As before in the Bundestag, a two -thirds majority is also required in the country chamber for the change in the Basic Law. That is 46 of the 69 votes that the 16 federal states have overall.

It is likely that the necessary number of votes will come together. Especially after it is clear that Bavaria also wants to vote for it with its six voices. After the initial rejection, the free voters, which were ruling together with the CSU, had recently declared themselves ready.

If the Federal Council agrees, as expected, the law goes to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the next step. This then checks whether it was constitutional. With its signature and the subsequent publication in the Federal Law Gazette, the amendment to the Basic Law is effective.
