May 29, 2024 – Bungie has announced exciting details about the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, “The Final Shape,” set to release on June 4, 2024. This eagerly awaited expansion brings new gameplay elements, intriguing enemies, and extensive content updates that promise to enhance the Destiny 2 experience.
The Final Shape introduces a new enemy faction called the Dread. This faction includes various formidable adversaries such as the Grim, flying bat-like creatures that can suppress player abilities with their screeching attacks. Another new enemy type, the Subjugators, can wield the powers of Stasis and Strand, adding new layers of strategy to encounters.
Bungie has also revealed that “The Final Shape” will mark a significant shift in Destiny 2’s storytelling approach. Starting in March 2024, the game will transition from its traditional seasonal model to an episodic format. There will be three episodes in 2024, named Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, each consisting of three acts. This new format aims to deliver more frequent and engaging content for players.
The expansion will feature a new campaign and a challenging new raid. Pre-orders are already available, offering various bonuses depending on the edition purchased. The standard edition includes the new campaign, legendary mode, and the Echoes episode. The annual pass edition adds two more episodes, exclusive items, and additional in-game content.

In preparation for “The Final Shape,” Bungie has rolled out a two-month content update called “Into the Light.” This update, live since April, includes new activities, revamped missions, and iconic weapons from Destiny’s history. Players can participate in “Onslaught,” a wave-based defensive activity, and explore a new social space called the Hall of Champions. Additionally, beloved Exotic missions like “The Whisper” and “Zero Hour” have been updated with new rewards and secrets.
Moreover, Destiny 2 will see significant quality-of-life improvements. The Fireteam Finder, launching in November 2023, will help players team up for various activities. The game will also feature a new power system that enables players of different power levels to join activities together more easily. PvP enthusiasts can look forward to new maps and modes, including a Vex-themed map and a relic-based game mode.
To commemorate the late Lance Reddick, who voiced the character Zavala, Bungie observed a moment of silence during the recent Destiny 2 Showcase. The character’s legacy will continue with Keith David taking over the role. Additionally, Nathan Fillion will return as the voice of the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6, adding to the excitement of the new content.
Fans of Destiny 2 can expect a wealth of new content and features in the upcoming months. With “The Final Shape,” Bungie aims to conclude the “Light and Darkness” saga on a high note, offering players an epic finale filled with challenges, new enemies, and rich storytelling. Prepare your Guardians for the next chapter in the Destiny universe, coming this June.
