Construction projects: 330 million euros from the Bund for the Bundeswehr in Lower Saxony

The federal government has the construction volume for the Bundeswehr Increased in Lower Saxony. As the Ministry of Finance announced in Hanover, around 330 million euros flowed into construction projects for the Ministry of Defense in 2024. That is 37 million euros more than in the previous year. In addition, 55 million euros each for military construction work, which were commissioned by the Federal Real Estate Agency.

The major projects include the expansion and conversion of the NATO airfield Wittmundhafen one of four Eurofighter bases in Germany (730 million euros by 2032), the redesign of the marine arsenal Wilhelmshaven (1 billion euros by the end of the 2030s) as well as the modernization and expansion of the naval base Wilhelmshaven (in total 410 million euros “in the coming years”).

“Contribution to the defense ability of our country”

«No other country builds as much for the Bundeswehr as Lower Saxony“, Said finance minister Gerald Heere (Greens). “This also meets our responsibility in the construction sector and make a considerable contribution to the defense ability of our country.”

According to the information, the federal government may not build for the Bundeswehr itself, but rather the construction administrations of the federal states – in Lower Saxony, state construction management with seven regional building authorities. The Lower Saxony construction management has around 1,500 full -time positions.
