In an exciting announcement on June 2, 2024, Sony revealed that Astro Bot, the beloved PlayStation character, will star in a new adventure on the PS5. Set to release on September 6, 2024, this game promises to be the biggest Astro Bot adventure yet.

The new game, simply titled Astro Bot, marks a significant departure from Astro’s previous outing in Astro’s Playroom, which was more of a tech demo showcasing the PS5’s capabilities. This time, Astro is set for a full-fledged platforming adventure that spans six galaxies and over 80 levels.
A Galactic Adventure
In Astro Bot, players will guide Astro through various vibrant and imaginative worlds. The game will feature a range of environments, from lush forests and sandy beaches to hot volcanoes and even more unique locales like a gigantic hourglass and the canopy of a singing tree. Each world is designed to provide a visually rich and immersive experience, fully utilizing the PS5’s hardware capabilities.
New Abilities and Enhanced Gameplay
Astro will have over 20 new abilities at his disposal, ensuring diverse and engaging gameplay. Some of these abilities include the Bulldog Booster, which allows Astro to air-dash and smash through obstacles, and the Twin-Frog Gloves for long-range punching and swinging. Another interesting ability is the Giant Sponge, enabling Astro to soak up water and grow in size to wreak havoc on enemies.
These abilities will take full advantage of the PS5’s DualSense controller, making use of its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to create a more tactile and immersive experience.
Meeting Old Friends and New Enemies
Astro Bot will also bring back characters from across the PlayStation universe. Fans can expect cameos and references from popular franchises like God of War, Uncharted, PaRappa the Rapper, and Shadow of the Colossus. These beloved characters will join Astro on his quest, adding a layer of nostalgia and excitement for long-time PlayStation fans.
The game will introduce over 70 new enemy types, including formidable bosses at the end of each galaxy. One notable boss is Lady Venomara, a deadly cobra queen residing in a golden lair. Defeating these bosses will unlock secrets and progress the story.
Trailer and Pre-orders
The announcement trailer, which debuted during the State of Play event, showcased the game’s vibrant worlds, new abilities, and several PlayStation cameos. It also highlighted the platforming action and various gameplay mechanics that players can look forward to.
Pre-orders for Astro Bot will open on June 7, 2024, giving fans the chance to secure their copy ahead of the September release.
