A fire breaks out in an industrial area in the Münsterland. The flames spread quickly. A person is injured in the extinguishing work.

A major fire broke out late Wednesday evening in a commercial area in Münsterland in Westphalia. The emergency call received at 11:19 p.m. at the Warendorf fire brigade. The building in Ahlen in the Warendorf district, which processes plastic, was in the meantime in full fire, said a spokesman for the fire brigade. A fireman was injured in the extinguishing work.

According to initial estimates, it burned on an area of ​​up to 7,000 square meters. A total of three halls had caught fire, and a neighboring company was also covered by the flames.

In the meantime, the fire has been brought under control, the spokesman said in the early morning. Delete work is still underway. Around 300 emergency services are on site, supported by helpers from the surrounding towns. In order to ensure security, surrounding roads were closed to traffic and onlookers were kept away.

According to the police, the amount of property damage could not yet be estimated.

For residents in Ahlen and Ahlen Süd, a warning message was published for flue gases via the warning app “Nina”. Due to the fire, there had been odor nuisance and smoke precipitation, health impairments could not be excluded. In the meantime, no one should go outside in the affected area, and windows and doors should be closed as a precaution and climate and ventilation systems should be switched off. In the meantime, the warning has been lifted again.
