Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) is now churning on delivering medicines, blood bags and other necessary medical materials from drones to hill and remote areas. On Saturday, AFMS Director General, Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin gave information in this regard. She was speaking on the occasion of the commissioning ceremony of five medical cadets at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. On this occasion, he also talked about astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who was part of the Commerce Axiom-4 mission for the International Space Station (ISS).

Vice Admiral Sarin said that AFMS is now making health services further improved by adopting modern techniques such as telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), point-of-care equipment and drones. He said, ‘We are considering using drone techniques to supply blood bags, medicines and other medical devices. In fact, we are expecting a day when the treatment can also be done using the drone.

Pilot project is being considered

He further stated that this technique is currently being considered for a pilot project in remote and hilly areas, where it is challenging to reach. He said, “Such technology is already being used by non-monkey agencies.” At the same time, AFMC Commandant Lieutenant General Pankaj Rao said that from prevention to treatment, technological progress is being adopted in the medical field.

AFMS responsibility for the health of astronauts of Axiom-4 mission

Vice Admiral Sarin, referring to Shubhanshu Shukla, astronaut of the Axiom-4 mission sent for ISS, said that the responsibility of the health of all four astronauts involved in this mission is on AFMS. He said, “Aviation Medical Institute is providing primary healthcare in the US and a group captain has been deployed in Houston, Texas to care for the health care of the crew.”

One of the five medical cadets, Indian Air Force and four were inducted into the Army

Later, AFMC reported in a release that one of the five medical cadets received has been included in the Indian Air Force and four in the Indian Army. The release also stated that AFMC along with national and international institutions is promoting medical education, research and innovation. Due to this, this college has become a great medical education center. The release also stated that AFMC’s genome sequencing laboratory is very modern and has Next-generation techniques. With the help of this laboratory, research is being done for identification and treatment of genetic diseases, cancer, transplant medicine and reproductive health related diseases.
