Bayern boss Dreesen: Club World Cup is “no lust trip”

The club World Cup in the United States is an extra burden for many players-but clubs like FC Bayern are waged with many millions. Munich’s boss reveals some planning details.
Jan-Christian Dreesen already had the new object of desire in Munich on Monday afternoon. With the two twin towers of the Frauenkirche as a picturesque backdrop in the background, he posed with it on the terrace of the Penthouse of the Do & Co Hotel connected to FC Bayern World.
However, the motto was true for FC Bayern’s board boss: just seeing, not touching. The privilege of touching the trophy of the club World Cup, which was presented during the Trophy Tour at an appointment in the city center of Munich, is currently still reserved for heads of state. US President Donald Trump, for example, who will be the organizer of the new XXL tournament in June with the USA, recently put on hand.
Dreesen still wants to and must earn the right to contact as a possible first winner of the first edition of the club World Cup in the new format with FC Bayern. It is precisely with this goal and great excitement that Dreesen with the record champion is looking forward to the Megetaturnier in the United States in summer.
“All players are hot. They not only want to participate, they also want to win,” said Dreesen on the sidelines of the presentation of the trophy. The club World Cup is not a “lust trip” for the German record champions, but a competition in which one wants to “get as far as possible”.
In addition to the sporting charm, the financial aspect also plays a role. The World Association FIFA had announced that it will release a billion US dollars (around 930 million euros) in prize money – in addition there is a solidarity amount of 250 million euros for non -participating teams. Dreesen explained: “Of course this is first of all a sporty challenge, that’s the most important thing.” Nevertheless, the tournament has “a financial attractiveness”.
Dreesen revealed that the Munich -based company will take $ 30 million (around 27.8 million euros) as a result of the entry fee and an additional bonus as a top European club. In the event of sporting successes, further premiums can be added. In the end, the winner waves more than $ 100 million – at best even up to $ 120 million.
The burdens for the players are aware of the Bayern boss. In front of the club World Cup, the final four of the Nations League (June June 8th) is still pending, which further compresses the narrow schedule. Dreesen said: “The biggest challenge is how we can get a piece of peace for the players before the next season.”
The club World Cup will be held in the United States from June 14th to July 13th. Only about a month later in Germany with the first round of the DFB Cup (15th to 18th August) and the Supercup (August 16) the new season.
Despite the short break, Dreesen was confident that the Munich team will “rest and get fit” until then. At the same time, he made it clear: “Easy to bloze out the squad – we don’t want that. Because then our young players would no longer be able to play.”
You look forward to the premiere of the new competition, which “has not yet existed,” said Dreesen. During the tournament, FC Bayern will initially open its base camp in Orlando. Dreesen referred to the logistical challenges of the long journey: “We were a team when the club was not on a tournament for five weeks at a time.” As the 57-year-old announced, the players will be able to receive their families in the Bavarian camp at the beginning due to the long tournament period at least for a while.
In the later course of the tournament, a possible move of the Bayern camp to New York is planned, where all semi-finals and the final will take place on July 13th. After that, Dreesen can not only look at the golden trophy in the best case, but finally touch.
