Verona Pooth, Franjo and the nanny: MRS Doubtfire in Düsseldorf

The musical “Mrs. Doubtfire” will celebrate its German premiere in Düsseldorf in November. Verona Pooth has already seen the piece – and is thrilled, just like her husband Franjo.

A new musical will be shown in the Düsseldorf Capitol Theater from the end of the year: The German staging of “Mrs. Doubtfire” celebrates its premiere on November 6th. It should be as successful as possible as on New York Broadway or at the famous West End London. There the “spiky nanny” has been dancing with the vacuum cleaner Tango for a long time or deletes her stuffed bra, who caught fire at the stove, with pot lids.

The template for the musical is the Hollywood comedy “Mrs. Doubtfire-the spiky nanny” with Robin Williams in the leading role. The film conquered the world’s cinema walls more than 30 years ago, in Germany around 5.5 million people saw it in 1993. As on the canvas, the history of the unemployed actor Daniel, who despite all the adversities as “Mrs. Doubtfire” does everything possible to be near his children, who are now driving people in Düsseldorf.

Around 200 shows are planned in the Capitol Theater by mid-April 2026, and a total of 200,000 visitors will be hoped. A family from Meerbusch near Düsseldorf has already seen the English version of the musical: Verona Pooth had traveled to London with her husband Franjo and the children Diego and Rocco and everyone has been enthusiastic about the play since then.

To present the German production, the Pooths also came to the Capitol Theater on Monday (March 24) and told about their trip to London. Franjo, who, unlike Verona before, was not a big musical fan, said that “Mrs. Doubtfire” had already tied him up after ten minutes and that he was sad when the performance was over. “We were seriously moved,” he reported. Because her Franjo was so enthusiastic about the musical, Verona wondered: “What happened to my husband?”

Verona Pooth continued that Franjo and she were fans of the film with Robin Williams in the nineties – and have remained to this day. “The story is always up to date, so somehow timeless. Because there are turbulence in every family – also with us. It is important that you go through there and then enjoy all the highlights that give us life,” said the moderator.

The 13-year-old son Rocco saw the film for the first time when he was with his grandma. While the grandmother fell asleep in front of the television, he continued to watch to the end and found “Mrs. Doubtfire” then “mega”. At the premiere in November he now wants to bring his half school class “and also the grandma, because she missed something,” said the 13-year-old. The second son of the Pooths, the 21-year-old Diego, was with “Mrs. Doubtfire” in London, but was missing at the appointment in Düsseldorf-the training for the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” currently has priority.
