Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned from the post of Vice President of India, will now be given a type-8 government bungalow from the government. This information was given by an official of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on Tuesday. Jagdeep Dhankhar shifted to the newly constructed ‘Vice President Enclave’ in April last year, which is located on the Church Road near the Parliament House complex. This Enclave was built under the Central Vista Project. Now after resignation, they have to vacate this house.

What is type-8 bungalow?

Type-8 category bungalow is given to senior Union ministers of the country, presidents of national parties or other high positions. Such bungalows occur in VIP areas like Lutyens Delhi.

Vice -presidential Resignation and controversy

Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President on Monday citing health reasons. But the Congress and other opposition parties have questioned his move and said that ‘more serious reasons than health reasons’ are behind this resignation.

No farewell speech

Government sources said that there will be no formal farewell speech for Jagdir Dhankhar. On Tuesday, BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who is a member of the Deputy Chairman Panel in the Rajya Sabha, informed the House about the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu. He said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs has accepted the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar under Article 67A of the Constitution with immediate effect.”

What will happen now?

The Vice President of India is elected by members of both houses of MPs. This is done by election and professional representation method. If the post is vacant due to the death, resignation or removal of the Vice President, then the election should be held as soon as possible. However, there is no fixed time frame for this. Meanwhile, the process of election of the new Vice President is expected to begin soon. Any person who will be selected will complete a full 5 -year term from the date of taking charge.
