Indian Railways is going to take several important decisions to fix security in trains and stop smuggling. Now the railway stations are preparing to give the responsibility of safety in private hands. As a trial, the Railways is going to implement this system at two stations. It will be implemented at other stations only after the successful trial of these two. Railways Haryana and Punjab’s capital Chandigarh railway station and Gomtinagar station of Lucknow have been included in the pilot project.
Both these stations will have CCTV surveillance, recording system by private company. Similarly, baggage scanner will also be in private hands, for which arrangements will be made by the private company at its level. According to the information, apart from this, the intervention of officers in two zones and mandals will be limited at both these stations. Even all the powers of tenders will be the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). Applications will be invited from private companies for all tenders including security.
Actually, the Railways has already outsourced many facilities. There are many facilities from housekeeping, catering, so that passengers can get better facilities. Its benefit is also being seen. Railways are going to do similar experiment with security system. There is a preparation to make security arrangements like airport at stations. Here too, guards will be deployed on the lines of the airport, who will check goods and passengers. Railways have taken steps to prevent smuggling in trains. Recently, 36 crore smuggling was caught in Mumbai.

Private guards will be deployed in security
RPF personnel will be deployed at places where the most needs are needed from the deployment of private guards. Private guards will be deployed for line and other external works in trains. Sources say that after the results of the pilot project of these two cities, this arrangement can be implemented at such stations in the country, where the number of passengers and trains running daily is more. This may include Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Surat, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Chennai, Prayagraj, Kanpur.
RLDA will be responsible for all this
Whether Chandigarh railway station city or Gomtinagar station, tenders of their electrical wing escalators, lift, air conditioner, lighting, train display boards, display boards of passenger facilities etc. were at the board level. Now their tender will be done by RLDA. Apart from this, tiles, construction works will also be handed over to RLDA at the station under the officials of Engineering, Signal Department. Similarly, the operating department had many works like parking, catering, cleaning, which will be withdrawn from the divisional level. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) will also be posted at the station. FIRs on crime will enter both agencies as before.

According to the sources of the Railway Board, so far it has been decided to hand over the RLDA to Chandigarh and Gomti Nagar stations for nine years. The tenure can also be extended by three years. The operation of trains under the railway will be the same at the board and the zone level. It has been clarified in the policy that employees will be deployed at the divisional level itself. Parcel, transportation, OHE wires, ticket sales, reservation centers, ticket refunds, repair in trains, maintenance, water filling in trains, loco fuel etc. will remain under the railway as before. Whereas RLDA will focus on facilities, announcements and passengers’ facilities and maintenance on the airport lines. These stations will have facilities like food plazas, goods. Tenders will be given to companies to make cleanliness, security better, while parking can also be changed.
