US President Donald Trump on Saturday described BRICS as ‘a small group’. He said that this group wants to end the US dollar dominance (dominance). Trump warned that if this happens, he will impose 10 percent tariffs (import duty) on BRICS member countries. This is the second time in the last ten days, when Trump has threatened to impose 10 percent tariffs on BRICS countries. BRICS member countries include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Talking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “You have a small group called BRICS.” It is ending very fast, but BRICS wants to eliminate dollar dominance and replaces his currency in its place. Trump made this statement at the event where he signed the first cryptocurrency bill named ‘Genius Act’. The bill provides for regulatory framework for stabilcoin cryptocurrency.

A few weeks ago, Trump announced a mutual tariff on many countries of the world. This was followed by a BRICS summit at Rio de Janeiro in early July. In this conference, BRICS countries criticized the US and said in a shared statement that this unilateral tariff is against the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and this will threaten global trade. On July 8, Trump said that the BRICS was established to damage the US and weaken the dollar. He warned that these countries would have to face 10 percent of tariffs.

Trump again raised the issue on Friday and said that when BRICS countries met, most people did not come there, because they were scared of tariffs. This is a shocking thing. He further said, no, we will not let the dollar weaken. If America has a sensible President, the dollar will never let fall. Trump said that it is very important for the future generations to remain the dollar’s reserve currency. If we lost this, it would be like losing a world war.

He said that if this group called BRICS really gets organized, then I will finish it very soon. I don’t think they will be able to do so. They are afraid of me. BRICS Group leaders (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran) met for the 17th BRICS summit in Brazil on July 6 and 7. On July 6, Trump had threatened to impose 10 per cent of additional tariffs on countries that would support the ‘anti -America’ policies BRICS groups. Now four new countries Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and UAE have also been added to the BRICS group.

Meanwhile, the fifth round of talks on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between India and the US have been completed in Washington on 17 July. An official said that Rajesh Aggarwal, the leading negotiator of India and Special Secretary of the Department of Commerce, led the four -day conversation that started on July 14. This dialogue is important because both sides want to make an interim trade agreement before August 1. On the same day, the deadline for suspension of tariffs (26 per cent on India) already imposed by Trump is applied to many countries including India.
