Biometrics of Displaced People of Myanmar, Bangladesh Living in Mizoram to be Recorded News in Hindi – Amar Ujala Hindi News Live

Biometric and demographic details of refugees from Bangladesh and Myanmar in Mizoram will be recorded soon. Officials said that officers are being trained in the entire state for this process and the work is expected to start from late July. The Foreigners Identification Portal will be used to identity and enter the refugees. However, data will be recorded offline in rural areas where internet facility is weak.

Lunglei 10 biometric registration teams formed in

A training session for officers was held on Friday in Lunglei district, which taught the identity of refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh and the process of biometric registration. This training was organized by Lunglei District Level Committee. Additional Superintendent of Police of Lunglei K.K. Bamhmotaosa informed that 10 biometric registration teams have been formed in the district and necessary equipment has been ordered from the Home Department. The process will be started from the Ramthar refugee camp and gradually it will be spread to the other eight camps in the district.

How many refugees are there in the state?

Explain that around 32,000 Myanmar citizens have taken refuge in 11 districts of the state. They have come mostly from Chin State and arrived here in February 2021 after a military coup in Myanmar. At the same time, 2,371 Bangladeshi (mainly the people of Bawam tribe) came to Mizoram after military action in Chittgaon Hill Tracts in 2022. Along with this, due to ethnic violence in Manipur, more than 7,000 people from ethnic communities have taken shelter in Mizoram.

Cultural and ethnic relations

Significantly, the Chin community of Myanmar, the Bawam tribe of Bangladesh and the community of Manipur who have close ethnic relations with the Mizo tribes, have got their familiarity in Mizoram. In such a situation, this initiative is being considered an important step towards ensuring the identity of refugees living in the state and protecting their rights.
