Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva was sworn in as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday. Governor Mangubhai Patel administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a function held at Raj Bhavan. Justice Sachdeva was working as the acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court from May. He has now been appointed as the 29th Chief Justice of the High Court of the state.

During the ceremony, the Chief Secretary of the state recited the notification issued by President Draupadi Murmu, in which Justice Sachdeva was announced to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Born on 26 December 1964 in Delhi, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva received a bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honors) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi in 1985. He then obtained a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from Campus Law Center at Delhi University in 1988. He was registered as an advocate in the Delhi Bar Council on 1 August 1988 and started advocating from the same year.

Suresh Kait handled responsibility after retirement

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva was appointed as Acting Chief Justice on 24 May 2025. He was handling the responsibility of Chief Justice since the retirement of the then Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait. Earlier, he has held the responsibility of acting Chief Justice of the state from 9 July 2024 to 24 September 2024. On 30 May 2024, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva was transferred from Delhi High Court to Madhya Pradesh High Court.
