West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condemned the demolition of Satyajit Ray’s house and said that this house is deeply associated with the cultural history of Bengal.

Located in Bangladesh city Maman Singh, this house is associated with Satyajit Ray’s grandfather Upendra Kishore Ray Chaudhary and spent a long time in this house. Upendra Kishore Ray Chaudhary is a big name for Bengal literature. Recently, there were reports that the Bangladesh government is going to demolish the ancestral house of Satyajit Ray. On this, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern that ‘We are very sad that the Bangladesh government is dropping the ancestral house of Satyajit Ray. This property is owned by the Bangladesh government and is currently in a very poor condition. Given the historical significance of this building, which symbolizes the Bangla cultural renaissance, it should be re -considered and rebuilt it and convert it into a Sahitya Museum. It is a symbol of the common culture of India and Bangladesh. The Government of India is also ready to help in this purpose.

Mamta Banerjee’s appeal

The Chief Minister of Bengal said on this issue that it is very sad to demolish the ancestral house of the great filmmaker. He said, ‘Ray family is one of the leading carriers of Bengali culture. Upendra Kishore is a column of the Renaissance of Bengal. Therefore, I believe this house is deeply connected to the cultural history of Bengal. I appeal to the Bangladesh government and all the conscious people of that country to take steps for the protection of this heritage. He wrote that, ‘Government of India should focus on this matter.’

Bangladesh officials, citing security risks, suggested that a new concrete structure will be made instead of the dilapidated house and it will become the center of cultural activities. There is a dispute about Satyajit Ray’s ancestral home, when India and Bangladesh’s bilateral relations are going on these days. The interim government under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus is in power after the Sheikh Hasina government left power last year. In the interim government, incidents of exploitation of Hindu minorities are coming out in Bangladesh, on which the Government of India raised strong objections.
