Air India Completes Inspection of Locking Mechanism of Fuel Control Switches in Boeing 787 Planes; No issue Found: Airline Official

Air India got the entire fleet investigated

Air India, taking immediate action, started investigating the fuel control switch in its entire Boeing 787 Dreamliner Fleet. On Wednesday, the airline informed that the investigation of all aircraft has been completed and no problem has been found in any aircraft. Throttle Control Modules (TCMs) have already been changed in all aircraft.

Other airlines are also doing precautionary investigation

Apart from Air India, other companies operating Boeing 737 aircraft in India like AI Express, Akasa Air and Spice Jet are also investigating these fuel switch locks. At the same time, International Airlines such as Etihad and Singapore Airlines have also started a precautionary investigation in their Boeing Fleet. Countries like South Korea have also issued guidelines in this regard.

The FAA and Boeing have so far clarified that the fuel switch locking mechanisms in Boeing aircraft are safe and no major danger is likely. Nevertheless, precautionary investigation is being done so that there is no compromise on the safety of passengers. Due to the strictness of DGCA in India, more vigilance is being taken over such technical flaws than before.

How does fuel control switch work
Fuel control switch controls fuel supply in the an engines of the aircraft. According to the AAIB report, the fuel supply of the two engines was closed in a interval of one second after a few seconds of the takeoff in the accident aircraft. In the cockpit recording, a pilot asks the other, ‘Why did you stop the fuel? And in response the other says I did not. This had increased the possibility of technical disturbances, under which the company instructed to examine all the aircraft.
